9 Reasons not to get Windows Vista

After having tried Vista a couple of days, I just could not handle it anymore, so i had to format and install xp again…

Heres a couple of reasons why I didn’t like it, and why it’s not better than xp.

1. It costs too much! The much cheaper Windows xp is a far better alternative. For the same amount of cash you pay for a lisence of Vista, you could get a cheap ”low-end” computer.
2. Theres almost nothing new and special in Vista, except for the resource-using glass theme aero. Heres what Microsoft would say are news and good reasons to get vista.
3. You would probably need to upgrade your hardware if you want to take full use of Vista.
4. Vista is actually slower than xp on file transfer, file copy and such… It uses all system resources to calculate transfer time remaining instead of just transfering the files.
5. A new vista install takes about 11 gb of drive space
6. Many programs and system drivers does, still not work. Some programs even stop working sometimes, totally randomly.Example
7. All the nag about updating lisences and activation.
Before you activate, you have the right to use the version of the software installed during the installation process. Your right to use the software after the time specified in the installation process is limited unless it is activated. This is to prevent its unlicensed use. You will not be able to continue using the software after that time if you do not activate it.

8. UAC - UserAccountControl, It’s just annoying, and the first thing to be shut off when installing Windows Vista.
9. Copy protection and DRM (Digital Rights Management) is implemented in vista, it’s just crap built to annoy people.

Thats just what i think of Vista. Havee you ever had problems with Vista?

Well at first I had the Nvidia driver issue. But after switching to an Ati Card then everything worked nicely. Vista is not a bad os, it’s just a young one. Once we get the service pack in October then I think things will get better. As for running on a low end machine. It works fine for me on a pos Sempron with 1gb of Ram. Drm is not something new to Vista. It’s been around since Media player 9 I think. Anyways there are very simple methods for defeating Drm. Needless to say the first feature I disabled was “Uac”. But you get alot of things in Vista that are important. Such as Data Execution Prevention “Dep”. Alot of ppl do what you did. Use it for 2 days then quit. As for price, well u can get oem copies of Vista at new egg for around the same prices as xp. But expect to pay more for ultimate edition simply because it’s the Xp Mce replacement. Sorry to sound like a Vista fanboy. I prefer Linux myself. But I usually tell my customers Vista is like Xp on steroids. And I dunno if any of u remember. But Xp really, really sucked the first few months it was around. Remember the “Fischer Price” Gui comments?. But if u really want a crappy version of Windows then I vote for “Windows Me”…

Yes there are some positive sides about Vista too. Perhaps i should try to make a similar list ^^.
Alot of people would probably not get vista if it was’nt for the oem versions.

I also had nVidia driver problems with my laptop, and ati driver problems in the beginning of the vista release.

Defeating drm is one way to do it, but not everyone has the knowledge to do that, and I personally think Microsoft should not have included it at all, It’s just there, in the background, watching you…

But if u really want a crappy version of Windows then I vote for

i got vista with my new computer and i have one thing to say:

HP are bitches about new computers.

I got it home on a scooter, hooked it up, turned it on, logged in, and lo and behold before me was the HP whatever-center… sorry i ruined the climax…

I searched for a way out but alas, even ctrl-alt-del was disabled. so i humbly accepted and hour and a halfs worth of being forced to install things i knew i would only unistall as soon as it was done.

it was heralding dealing with HP innovation CRAP, but i could say microsoft was worse for giving me a product that was obviously meant to hinder the users of today. Here is what you get little timmy, just so that you know you will deal with this bs your whole life.

lets not forget one more culprit here the EVIL company SYMANTEC, imbedding themselves in EVERY unweary consumers OS. They are a waste of time, energy(wasted on the time of it being active),space of electrons that are this USELESS BIT OF USELESS PROGRAM!

Why? Because being good at what you say you do, has nothing to do with the amount of doing you did to have something to say about it.

Hi :) Well, your story just proves (once more) that if u want a reliable computer, you should buy the seperate parts and build it yourself, not buy anything from dell/hp etc.
They install so much crap that the computer is close to unusable when u get your hands on it.

I got a new lap-top from dell a couple of months ago, the harddrive was partitioned into 4 seperate disks!, as if the disk was not small enough…!

It seems like microsoft wants to control/survey whatever you do on your own computer, through Vista.

well, lesson learned :)
